One of the things that makes Always & Furever so successful is our amazing staff and volunteers. At the core of that is a group of drivers who drive our dogs and cats to the vet, pick them up from kill shelters, and give them rides to their furever families. They are the heart and soul of our organization. Last July, a tragic accident took the lives of our beloved friend and driver, David Hosch, and one of our precious foster dogs, Annabelle. David’s transition from this life to the next happened while he was doing what he loved best — driving Annabelle to a vet appointment. Words can’t describe what he meant to us, to others in the rescue community, and to many throughout the world. We needed to do something to honor him.
October 2021, David had planned to ride his bike across Kansas, visit rural rescues and make physical donations to them, and raise $100,000 for Always & Furever and the Big Red Barn. David never got the chance to live his dream. We want to make David proud. We created “David’s Day” and on every October 1st we are asking EVERYONE who follows us worldwide to participate. Please find a rescue near you, ask what they need most, and support your community.
During the past year few years, we have kept David and Annabelle close to our hearts. Each October 1st we have helped facilitate donations to countless rescues all across the world. We have also partnered with the city of Osawatomie, Kan., to renovate their pound into a beautiful new shelter. While the conditions prior to this new venture were not ADA accessible, David never let that stop him from helping and transporting all the animals there. In his honor we are going to transform the dilapidated metal structure into an ADA accessible, welcoming home for lost, stray and abandoned dogs and cats. In addition, we will dedicate the newly renovated dog wing to David as the “Sunflower Suites” in honor of his business, Sunflower Animal Transport. We will also dedicate the first kennel to Annabelle — who loved David enough to make sure he didn’t cross the rainbow bridge alone. She did for him what he did for so many sweet souls. We were blessed to have him on this earth with us.
Be a part of something special. Let’s all make ^David^ proud!
