Unlike other shelters, we refuse to give up on any of the animals that enter our doors. No matter what, our team devotes as much of our time, energy, and funding as possible to keep our animals healthy and safe.

Even after our animals find their furever homes, we vow to help you take care of them, if necessary. We conduct frequent follow ups and can help connect you to resources as needed. One day, we hope to reduce barriers between adopters and essential pet care, including veterinary costs and food purchases.

Positivity

Plans change and mistakes happen, but it’s our job to persevere and to learn. What began in Spring Hill, Kansas, has grown into a life-saving mission serving animals across Osawatomie, Kansas City, Wichita, and beyond. We’re here to be the model of forgiveness that these animals need, which helps us become better, kinder people.

Adoption Process

If you’re ready to join our community of adopters, we’re glad to have you! Before you bring your furry friend home, though, there are a few steps you’ll need to follow. Start by filling out an application and then we will begin:

• Reference Checks – This helps us understand you as a pet owner. If this is your first pet, don’t worry—this step helps us match you with the right animal.
• Virtual Home Check – The size of your home isn’t important, as long as it meets your pet’s needs.
• Background check – We need this information to check for any past animal-related incidents. All animals deserve secure, happy homes.
• Medical Team Consultation – Ensuring the health of you, your new friend, and any current pets you have is essential.
• Meet-and-Greets – We’ll repeat this step as necessary to verify that you and your desired companion are compatible.

Future Plans at the Homestead

A fortunate turn of events led Always & Furever to purchase 40 acres next to our original Little Red Barn. What began as a simple letter to the landowners is now a dream come true! Our main focus will be on building smaller facilities for puppies, cats, reactive animals, and on-site medical care. Then, we can shift focus to hosting community-centered activities on the property that encourage kind humans to adopt animals in need. This could include puppy yoga, pancake breakfasts with dogs, bingo nights with cats, and more.

Our mission continues to grow. Today, we proudly serve pets and people across the region, with key locations in Wichita, Osawatomie, and our soon-to-be Homestead East in Kansas City, MO.
