She soon accepted a part-time job with A&F in February 2021 – Med Coordinator Assistant. Her primary responsibilities are ensuring that monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative medications are given to all animals in our system and helping the three Med Coordinators in any way possible. Merrill became a first-time foster for “Bronco” in April 2020 and quickly became an A&F alumni member by foster failing. Bronco, now Tucker, quickly became a very beloved family member. This was a natural transition for this animal lover that has been rescuing lost or sick/injured wild animals and pets since early childhood. Her family always included a dog, cat and birds and has also included ferrets, snakes, possums, mice and eventually a horse. Merrill grew up in Overland Park, KS and moved to Olathe, KS ten years ago. She is married to Randy and has two adult sons and one stepson. They have three grandchildren that live locally and one more arriving in January. Merrill attended both Kansas State University and later the University of Kansas, graduating with a B.S. in Respiratory Therapy. She worked in pulmonary diagnostics at Kansas University Medical Center for the first decade of her career and also taught physiology and pulmonary functions in the K.U. Respiratory Therapy Education Program. She later joined Olathe Medical Center as the Cardiopulmonary Clinical Coordinator and then accepted the Respiratory Care/Sleep Disorders Center Director position in 1990. Retirement from her 30+ year career in respiratory therapy occurred in 2020. In her free time Merrill enjoys spending free time with family (two-legged and four-legged), hiking in the mountains and traveling.
