Osawatomie Animal Shelter
Nestled near the rolling greens of the Osawatomie Golf Course, this small shelter holds within it some of the biggest hearts. This building was originally owned by the city of Osawatomie, but after many years of hard work, Always & Furever was finally able to purchase this building and the land around it in November of 2023. We have made wonderful renovations, completely redoing the inside of the facility, enlarging it, and building play yards.
Volunteering
The “Land of Oz” regularly has a variety of cats and dogs, who are either picked up by the nearby animal control or are transferred there from our rescue network. The main activity we need help with is walking the dogs and having new people meet them and spend time with them. When you arrive, staff will bring out a dog (of your choice or their recommendation) and you can go out to one of our several play yards for 1:1 toy time or go on a walk and explore our beautiful rural land or the small lake just outside our fence! Occasionally we also need help with laundry, cleaning, or other special tasks like yard work. With the expansion of our building, we do have some indoor space if you would like to hang with the pups inside and we also have a kitty room that often has residents! Regardless, be sure to dress for the weather, all levels of experience and capabilities are greatly appreciated! Must be 16+ or have a parent/guardian present

Dog Dates
Take a pup out for a change of scenery and some much-appreciated 1:1 time! For a dog date, we will bring a pup out to your car so you can drive and explore together. Take a pup for a walk around Hillsdale Lake, a drive down old country roads, play time at a park, or a quick treat with a pup-cup at Sonic! For more ideas around KC, visit this article. Must be 18+
Maintenance
All year round we always need help with mowing, trail maintenance, bug battlers, weed whacking, gardening, HVAC, and building!
