Hello friends! My name is Mikey Lundgren and I am one of Always and Furever’s “Special Forces” volunteers. I do a little of anything and everything. I help with social media, fundraising, adoption events, freedom rides, and vet runs. I started my adventure with A&F close to it’s beginning. My aunt lives in Spring Hill and had mentioned a new senior dog sanctuary just opened there, so I started following the page. One day a volunteer posted and asked if someone could do a freedom ride from Wichita. It was a last minute emergent request because the dog was about to be euthanized. I was off work that day and decided it was a good day to help save a life. While I was getting gasoline for the trip, I got a call asking if I could get a second dog while I was there. Then as per Jen’s M.O., two dogs turned into three. Good thing I have an SUV! The feeling of walking those dogs off death row and getting them to the veterinarian to be healed up was exhilarating! They were so happy and grateful…and I was hooked. For a short time I became the freedom drive coordinator, but with a full time job, A&F’s growth from a “sanctuary” to a “rescue” quickly surpassed my ability to keep up (thank heavens for Craig Elford)! So now I jump in and help out wherever I can. I am so thankful to be a part of A&F. It gives me a sense of purpose and I have met kindred spirits that have become lifelong friends. Most of all, I love being able to give back to dogs in return for all the stability, loyalty, and love that they have given me throughout my life.
